Sea Urchins

As Junko Mori's sculptures reminded me of sea urchins, I thought I would look at the real thing. They look so beautiful and delicate, but can defend themselves and be very sharp. They have a sense of uniqueness within them, with each spine being slightly different.

Junko Mori Blossom Table Sculpture Series

This is the kind of work I like. It has a organic feel with lots of detail, but it is still bold and striking. They remind me of sea urchins with their many complex spines.

A Jigsaw Egg Carving by Gary LeMaster

The idea behind this is clever! The outlines of the jigsaw pieces must have been pressed in so gently. The detail is so amazing.

An Egg Shell Carving by Roger Porter

I love the detail on the surface of the shell. It must have been worn down so carefully, the effect is beautiful. I love how the branches overlap and connect in an intricate pattern. The shapes created are fantastic!

Gorgeous Egg Shell Carving by Lew Jensen

The detail in this is amazing, It looks so fragile and delicate and it must have taken so much meticulous work. It still has its natural organic feel after all that has happened to it which is a positive. This is just so intricate it is incredible!

See if you can spot him... camouflage art by Liu Bolin

Work that is eye catching and not at the same time... its interesting to think that this would only work from one direction, which makes it so dependent on its surroundings. The amount of work involved is spectacular!

Paper Cut Christmas Cards I Made

I made these cards with a knife, carefully cutting away. I like the non-standard shapes they are for Christmas cards. I love the detail and I may try making more complex ones. I gave them out to friends and family.
